Item Guidelines

To keep Northern ReLoved affordable, fair, and manageable, we follow clear guidelines for what we can and can’t accept.

These aren’t judgments — they’re logistics.
We’re focused on items that can realistically find a second home.


General Condition Requirements

All items must be:

  • Clean, washed, and odor-free
  • In good, usable condition
  • Free of mold, mildew, excessive pet hair, or smoke odor
  • Safe and appropriate for resale

Items should be something you would feel comfortable giving to a friend.


Items We Commonly Accept

Clothing (Adult & Youth)

  • Everyday wear in good condition
  • Seasonal items appropriate for the time of year
  • No rips, heavy staining, missing buttons, or broken zippers
  • Light fixes (loose button, small seam repair) are okay

We do not accept:

  • Underwear or socks
  • Heavily worn, stretched, or faded items
  • Clothing with strong odors

Shoes

  • Clean and gently used
  • Soles intact and wearable
  • No strong odors or visible damage

We do not accept:

  • Broken, cracked, or heavily worn shoes
  • Shoes with strong odor or excessive wear

Linens & Bedding

  • Sheets, blankets, throws, table linens
  • Clean and in good condition

We do not accept:

  • Pillows or mattresses
  • Items with stains, tears, or heavy wear

Home Décor & Housewares

  • Small décor items
  • Kitchenware
  • Storage containers
  • Light household goods

We do not accept:

  • Large furniture
  • Broken items
  • Items with missing essential parts

Books (Select Types Only)

  • Fiction and non-fiction in good condition
  • No writing, water damage, or missing pages

We do not accept:

  • Textbooks
  • Encyclopedias
  • Magazines
  • Heavily outdated reference material

Craft & Yarn Supplies

  • Yarn (partial skeins are okay if clean and usable)
  • Fabric
  • Craft tools and supplies

We do not accept:

  • Moldy or damaged supplies
  • Items with strong odors
  • Hazardous materials

Accessories

  • Bags, purses, scarves, jewelry
  • Clean and functional

We do not accept:

  • Broken jewelry
  • Items missing key components

Items We Cannot Accept

For safety, space, and practicality, we do not accept:

  • Furniture or large items
  • Electronics or appliances
  • Mattresses or pillows
  • Car seats or recalled items
  • Items requiring major repair
  • Items with mold, heavy damage, or strong odors
  • Hazardous materials
  • Items not safe for resale

Important Things to Know

  • Submitting items does not guarantee acceptance or credits
  • Items are reviewed after pickup or drop-off
  • Credit amounts are based on condition, resale suitability, and demand
  • Credit decisions are final and not negotiable
  • Once items are picked up or dropped off, they cannot be returned
  • Items not accepted for resale will be donated or responsibly recycled
